Membership

Membership of Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) offers you:

​

  • Solidarity with a broad base of football writers/broadcasters in Ireland and abroad.

  • Representation in lobbying football clubs and governing bodies regarding access and facilities at venues, along with developing a general code of conduct between the football media and the professional game.

  • Entry into an association working to foster good relations between the football media and the people in the game who we interact with as part of our professional duties.

  • Assistance in resolving any disputes that involve our members in their relationship with clubs/governing bodies.

  • Inclusion on the SWI mailing list which circulates updates on various matters, including new information issued by clubs and federations.

  • Invitation to attend meetings, usually held quarterly, and our AGM.

  • An opportunity to have a say in the policy making of the group which has for over 62 years aimed to promote the work of the members. The association regularly donates to charities/hardship cases connected to football.

  • Free invitation to our annual banquet in Dublin, one of the highlights of the football calendar.

  • Entitlement to invite a current League of Ireland player (men’s or women’s) to the banquet for free and purchase tickets at costs for their guests(s).

  • Invitations to other gatherings including official lunches during the season and complimentary Christmas drinks.

  • Voting rights for prestigious awards, including Players of the Month Awards and the Personality of the Year (Men’s and Women’s), Goalkeeper of the Year, Special Merit Awards, as well as Press Officer and Website of the Year. Each member has a vote apiece.

  • The unique SWI lapel pin badge, a much sought-after collector’s item.

In order to join SWI, you must be proposed and then seconded by current members, who can attest to your stature within the industry. Initial probationary membership lasts for 12 months. An annual sub fee of €50 applies to all members.
