Lyons claims August's SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month award

Shamrock Rovers wing-back Andy Lyons has been named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers' Ireland Player of the Month for August

Lyons scored winning goals against Ferencvaros in the Europa League and Drogheda in the FAI Cup across a month that saw Rovers seal group-stage football in the Uefa Europa Conference League.

Lyons' Shamrock Rovers team-mates Rory Gaffney and Alan Mannus finished second and third in the voting respectively.

'There's been a lot of games this month so to come out with the award is brilliant', said Andy. 'It's a great individual recognition, and it's testament to the team's performances. It was a great month for us collectively, but to get recognised is brilliant.'
